What Are Standoff Caps?

Dec 30, 2024

Standoffs are components used to space media at a predetermined distance from any given mounting surface. Typical applications would include mounting signs vertically on an interior wall, at a distance determined by design criteria and the particular standoff system used. The primary components of the system, are barrels and standoff caps.

Stainless steel standoffs, and aluminum standoffs are available in various lengths and diameters. The barrels represent the distance between the mounting surface and the sign, and the standoff caps are affixed to the barrel through the sign's face in order to secure it. Their polished or brushed surface also offer a finishing touch.

As an example, a client has decided to us stainless steel standoffs with a diameter of 1-inch. He is mounting a sign on a wall using 4, 1-inch barrels, and 4, 1-inch diameter standoff caps. Aluminum standoffs would work equally as well, but design criteria calls for polished stainless steel for this application

The four barrels are mounted to the wall in predetermined locations. The media to be mounted is marked and drilled. It is then affixed to the barrels using the 4, 1-inch diameter standoff caps, thereby securing the sign at a distance of 2.5" from the wall. Other distances could have applied.

Not only are the standoffs functional, but both the barrels and the caps add a finished element to the project.
